When we took in all three of our cats, the animal shelter encouraged collar wearing--even with chips, if the cat runs off, it's easier to identify them as loved cats that should be returned. If you ship a cat or travel with one, a collar is important to their safety. And, because cats are not always easy to manage, collars make a great handle.
But finding one that would pull over their heads or break open to avoid choking was hard. And I wanted a soft, easy to put on collar as well. Choice of color was least important, but a nice extra.
